An easy-to-use album for Windows PCs!

Picasa is one of the most popular image viewing and storage programs in the world. With this tool, you can conveniently organise and manage digital photos on your Windows PC. It comes with additional features, such as red-eye removal, cropping, slideshow, and keyword search. As such, you can use the program to make subtle improvements to your photos. With Picasa, it’s possible to quickly browse through a huge collection of images on your system. Moreover, it automatically generates large-sized thumbnails of each image, allowing you to identify photos without much trouble.

Once you download and install Picasa, it searches your entire hard disk to find camera movie files, pictures, and other relevant files. Since the image viewer supports multiple file formats, it doesn’t leave anything behind. Once all the files have been identified, the program automatically organises each file in a chronological order, depending on the creation date.

Additionally, Picasa uses a proprietary auto-discovery engine, which detects whenever you copy new images to the PC. These files are also automatically added to the program’s database, saving a lot of your time spent on manually adding photos to an image viewer or storage option.

Unlike FastStone Image Viewer and other such programs, Picasa can detect when a card reader or camera gets attached to the PC. As such, it prompts you to copy relevant files to the system. The primary focus of the tool is organisation of digital photos, which comes in handy for people with a huge collection scattered across the hard disk.

Can you improve digital photos with Picasa?

Apart from the organisation capabilities, Picasa can be used to improve and enhance photos. While it’s not as powerful as Adobe Photoshop, the tool comes with a wide range of subtle editing features. For instance, you can use the program to create slideshows, which can be ideal for presentations and meetings. Similarly, you can email and print photos within a couple of clicks. With Picasa web, you can export photos to third-party apps online.

Picasa offers some of the most common editing features, such as rotate, red-eye removal, crop, color correction, and touch-ups. It allows you to improve digital photos without having to install another application. Moreover, Picasa lets you assign keywords to each image, making it easier to browse through your digital library. With Picasa, images can be accessed through a visually rich timeline view. Whenever a new image is added to the PC, the tool adds it to your photo album.

Is Picasa easy to use?

When it comes to design and simplicity, Picasa is a nicely developed program. With an uncluttered and clean interface, the tool is easy to navigate. On the left side of the screen, you’ll notice a list of digital or web albums containing your images. On the right side, you’ll find thumbnails of images currently selected in your album. At the bottom, there’s a ‘Picture Tray’, which displays individual photos. With a single click, you can choose to ‘clear’ or ‘hold them.

There’s an ‘Import’ screen, which lets you import digital photos from multiple sources, including cameras and scanners. You can even browse through a specific folder, such as a CD-ROM drive. It’s an important feature since you’re able to add files to the database from external backup options.

The ‘Timeline’ is an interactive graphical representation of your digital photos and albums. Only the files in the ‘currently selected’ section are visible in this form. It’s an animated way of displaying your files. However, with a couple of tweaks in the ‘settings’ section, you can continue to view small thumbnails of each image per album.

Most image viewers and editors like PC Image Editor don’t focus on creating slideshows. On the other hand, Picasa displays a full screen slideshow of your digital photos in a specific album, circling through images according to the creation and display time. This can be used to replace the ‘Wallpaper’ or ‘Theme’ feature on your Windows PC.

Does Picasa have editing and print options?

As mentioned earlier, Picasa can’t compete with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom or other similar programs. However, it comes with basic editing options, which empower Picasa as an image organiser. While using this tool, you can use ‘Edit Picture Window’, ‘Crop’, and ‘Red Eye Removal’.

Additionally, you can use the ‘Print’ function for online printing and sharing. Once again, printing isn’t the primary use of the tool, and you’d find these features pretty basic. With Picasa, you can choose to print a 3.5 x 5 print, 4 x 6 print, or Full Page Print. You can even print a ‘contact sheet’.

The best part about using Picasa for printing is that the tool identifies if any files will lead to low-quality print output. If a file has a low DPI value, the program gives you a prompt. It’s a nice feature that saves a good amount of paper from being wasted.

Picasa has been designed by a solid team of experienced developers. As such, it’s an excellent program focusing on ease-of-use, simplicity, and user-friendliness. Compared to other titles in the category, Picasa is a much better choice. Since it comes with editing as well as printing features, it’s a good choice for Windows PCs.

Plenty of features with a clean interface!

If you’re someone who keeps a lot of photos on the PC, the latest version of Picasa will be an ideal choice. It can be an excellent addition to your software library. In fact, you can use the program to find images on your Windows PC, and conveniently add them to the digital library. Picasa isn’t just an organiser. It also allows you to make subtle improvements to your images.

With the keyword feature, it becomes easier to browse through numerous images in different drives. Most importantly, the simple interface allows you to quickly preview thumbnails in chronological order. However, if you’re still looking for an alternative on Android or Mac, Google Backup and Sync could be a good choice.
